Management of Heritage Sites: Mapping Archaeological Landscapes from Space at the Bibliotheca Alexandria, Egypt

Douglas Comer presented 'Management of Heritage Sites' in Alexandria, Egypt at the IEREK Workshop. Using the seminal remote sensing volume Mapping Archaeological Landscapes from Space, Dr. Comer guided participants through the use of freely available GIS and remote sensing tools and multispectral, radar, and LiDAR datasets. 

 

Workshop on the use of GIS, GPS, and Remote Sensing in Archaeology at the University of Bucharest

This workshop was intended to familiarize participants with the various archaeological uses of the Global Positioning System (GPS), of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and of Remote Sensing. The workshop began with introductory sessions on GIS (led by Dr. William Megarry), GPS (led by Ioana A. Dumitru), and remote sensing processes (led by Dr. Douglas C. Comer). The workshop also included practical sessions in each of the three topics, consisting of in the field data collection with GPS units and practical exercises in QGIS.
